Our Story
The vision for Pineapple Cove Classical Academy originated in the affiliated Pineapple Cove Academy early learning center at Bayside Lakes. Students were graduating from VPK and continuing on to local schools, but the families missed the atmosphere and education of a pineapple school. Mr. Moran and Ms. Scott began researching charter schools. As they were doing so, they also encountered Hillsdale College and the Barney Charter School Initiative. The ideals of the College to educate an informed citizenry, curriculum recommendations, and the character instruction supported by the Initiative all pointed to a partnership that would provide a natural extension to Pineapple Cove Academy’s curriculum.
Now they needed a charter. Ms. Shakira Guice, the parent of a recent VPK graduate, recommended that Mr. Moran speak with Mrs. Kelly Gunter about writing a charter for the school. Mrs. Gunter not only wrote the charter, she joined the pineapple team to meet with representatives from Hillsdale College to secure affiliation, and presented the charter to Brevard Public Schools for approval. Wishing to continue to serve the families in the pineapple community, the first campus was established in Palm Bay in 2015 serving grades kindergarten through sixth. Mrs. Gunter became the principal and Mrs. Lisa Wheeler, who worked with the preschool developing a reading program, came onboard as the assistant principal.
Since that beginning, the Palm Bay campus has expanded to offer the full range of grades, K-12, with the Class of 2022 as the first Senior Class. An additional campus opened in West Melbourne in 2018 and a third is opening in the Lockmar community in Palm Bay in 2022. The overwhelming desire for a classical education, rich with character and traditional instruction, has driven the expansion of our schools.
The dedication of everyone involved with our schools- administrators, trainers, teachers, staff, and families- has enabled us to continue the work started at Pineapple Cove Academy. All who work in and visit our campuses experience an encouraging, supportive, positive environment. This feeling of welcome has created an ideal learning environment for our scholars.
A Message from Our Founders…
Welcome! Aloha! Exspectata! Veritatis Amore!
In the love of truth; the love of learning.
Welcome to Pineapple Cove Classical Academy! Pineapple Cove Classical Academy is Brevard County’s only K-12 Classical Charter School network. PCCA is a tuition-free charter school that offers parents a unique and time-honored approach to education.
Pineapple Cove Classical Academy is a natural extension of Pineapple Cove Academy Early Learning facility where excellence in early education has been established at the preschool level. It is with the overwhelming support of our parents and community that Pineapple Cove Classical Academy has become a reality.
The intention of K-12 classical education is to produce young adults who are strong in mind and character. A classical school achieves this through a time-tested, content-rich program that emphasizes traditional learning, virtuous living, and civic responsibility.
Pineapple Cove Classical Academy will prepare our young students with the most important tools of learning: the ability to read, memorize, understand, think, reason, write persuasively, and speak quite eloquently. A distinct style of learning is integrated into the entire PCCA student experience which includes academics, music, drama, athletics, and community spirit.
The unwavering support you have shown Pineapple Cove Classical Academy has been truly astounding. Our commitment to this type of education will not diminish. We will tenaciously continue our endeavor and commitment to the families who trust in us to educate their children.
